About

This website has been built to publish LiDAR scans of various caves and mines in the Mendip Hills that I have visited.

After finding that many smaller sites might only have sketch surveys, if anything at all, I gained an interest in surveying. When involved in various digging projects, I was spurred to record our findings.

For a few years, I followed the traditional methods of surveying using a laser range finding device adapted to measure bearing and inclination of the distance measured. When I learnt about the incredible Caveatron device www.caveatron.com, I built one of my own from the excellent instructions and scanned a number of sights.

Recently some mobile phones manufacturers have begun to incorporate LiDAR sensors in their devices. This has enabled photogrammetry applications to be created to take advantage of the sensor and allow anyone with the phone and application to scan any space.

If you’d like further information about the caves or mines or about how I created and display these models, then please visit the contact page and send a message.
